Restorative Justice in Urban & Rural Contexts

Lead Researcher: Tony Thomson

With a focus on community and the reintegration of offenders, it may be that restorative justice is best suited to small communities, which have relatively more intimate rather than anonymous social interactions. This project will examine whether the presumed characteristics of small communities accurately reflect urban/rural differences in Nova Scotia and whether any differences in community size or characteristics correlate (a) with differences in attitude about restorative justice among practitioners, justice personnel, and the public; and (b) actual difference in the way restorative justice is practiced.
